Legatheaux Martins

Short Bio:

José Legatheaux Martins is an Associate Professor at the Informatics Department (Departamento de Informática), Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia , Universidade Nova de Lisboa. Member of the Distributed Systems Group of the Centro de Informática e Tecnologias da Informação (CITI ). Elected member of the Coordination Committee of CITI. Current head of the Informatics Department of FCT/UNL

Obtained his Informatics Engineering and MSc degrees from UNL and his PhD degree in Distributed Systems from Université de Rennes in France. He is an Associate professor of Distributed Systems and Computer Networks at FCT/UNL and coordinates the Distributed Systems Research Group. Currently he also heads the Department of Informatics of FCT/UNL. From 1983 to 1986 he was a researcher at INRIA (Institut National de Recherche en Informatique et Automatique) in France were he worked on the Chorus Distributed Operating System and in the SOR team. From 1987 up to now he has been teaching and researching, first in the University of Lisbon and then in the New University of Lisbon. From 1990 to 1994 he lead the national project that established the portuguese branch of the Internet and lead the PUUG - Portuguese Unix Users Group, and the Portuguese EUnet branch, both not for profit organizations promoting Open Systems and the TCP/IP network suite and the Internet adoption in the industry. He was founder of an Internet Service Provider that has been acquired in 2000 by the US based Qwest Communications Company. From 1996 up to 2004 he served as member of the board and technical consultant of two telecommunications companies. His current research interests are mobile computing, publish/subscribe systems and wireless sensor networks.
